Emotional intelligence, empathy, good communication and interpersonal skills are just a few of the vital components of a productive and healthy organizational culture. Though sometimes dismissed simply as “soft skills,” these and other related skills are, in fact, critical, as they help form the basis of teamwork, collaboration, and a smooth-running, efficient workplace. They are also essential for cultivating a culture of compassion, which can help foster a stronger, more effective work environment.

This web event will explore the development of these skills in the context of leadership, with Stanford University lecturer and founding teacher of the Compassion Institute, Dr. Leah Weiss. Incorporating research from psychologists, neuroscientists, and Dr. Weiss’s top-selling book How We Work: Live Your Purpose, Reclaim Your Sanity, and Embrace the Daily Grind, this unique and powerful discussion will help you:

    • Gain an understanding of why and how compassion is important in leadership
    • Discover the science and research behind soft skill development
    • Learn the first steps to take when the need for compassion cultivation is recognized

    About the Presenter

Judith HumphreyLeah Weiss, Ph.D., is a researcher, lecturer, consultant, and author. She teaches Compassionate Leadership at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she created the perennially-waitlisted course "Leading with Mindfulness and Compassion." She is a principal teacher and a founding faculty member of Stanford's “Compassion Cultivation Program,” conceived by the Dalai Lama. Her first book, How We Work: Live Your Purpose, Reclaim Your Sanity, and Embrace the Daily Grind (HarperWave), focuses on developing compassionate and soft skill-based leadership while also offering research-backed actionable steps towards finding purpose at work.

    Overview

It stands to reason as we tackle gender diversity as a challenge in today’s workplace, it similarly impacts the world of project management as well.

According to the Project Management Institute, there is still a heavier concentration of male project managers. Women are managing projects everyday even without the title. Women are seen as the clear leaders in multi-tasking: a skill necessary for delivering on projects.

Being a project manager is primarily about influence, authority, and engagement to successfully deliver projects. In this webinar, we will hold up a magnifying glass to the world of project management through the women’s vantage point, understanding that there are additional complexities that factor into who we are as leaders. We have to flex our styles to get results while dealing with biases that we may not even be aware of at the onset of a project.

    What You Will Learn

    • Identifying the potential challenges women face managing projects
    • Taking a look at scenarios where women can get tripped up in managing project stakeholders
    • Developing strategies to own your power as project leaders and get the resources needed for your project

    About Women's Leadership Center Webinars
